“Our enemy is here!” Interview with Hamid Takvaee – 15 June 2025

From Journal Farsi, affiliated with the Worker-Communist Party of Iran, of which Hamid Takvaee is the leader. We are publishing this translation as part of a series documenting some dissident and alternative views on the conflict from social movements in Iran and its region. Documentation ≠ endorsement!

Keyvan Javid:
How do you see the consequences of the war?

Hamid Takvaee: This is a war between two fascist governments that, like all state wars, takes its victims from the people. On the first day, Israel’s attacks targeted government officials and military and nuclear centers of the Islamic Republic, but now these attacks have continued to target economic centers, factories, and refineries. The Israeli government, using the Islamic Republic’s missile attacks on the people and residential areas of Israel as an excuse, has announced that it will burn Tehran! Workers and ordinary people are the victims of these attacks. It is also the people’s job to end this killing spree.

Another consequence of the war is the Iranian government’s attempt to secure social space and to erase and push back the protests and struggles of the people under the pretext of war conditions. Currently, there are warnings against people who express joy on social media over the killing of government leaders, armed suppression of gatherings and protests, and arrests under the pretext of allegations of spying for Israel. But these efforts will not succeed. Last night, we witnessed slogans against Khamenei and the government in some neighborhoods of Tehran, and we must try to continue and expand this trend.

On a macro level, the consequence of this war is to further weaken the Islamic Republic in its war with the Iranian people. The loser of the current war is the Islamic Republic, and this defeat will also pave the way for the government’s defeat in its forty-six-year war with the Iranian people.

KJ: What are the party’s expectations and guidelines for the people in these special circumstances?

HT: In this war, the fascist government of Israel, like the Islamic Republic, is pursuing its own reactionary interests and goals. It is the job of the Israeli people to deal with the Netanyahu government, and it is the job of us, the people of Iran, to get rid of the Islamic Republic.

The main factor in this war and the overall conditions and tensions that led to this war are the nuclear project and the propaganda and war-mongering policies of the Islamic Republic. Confronting these government policies has been a permanent part of our people’s relentless and persistent struggle to overthrow the Islamic Republic. We have declared that our enemy is here, and to end this inhuman war, we must expand the struggle against this enemy. This war is taking place in the heart of our people’s relentless and persistent struggle to overthrow the government, and ending this war in our people’s interest depends on strengthening and advancing these struggles as much as possible.

The people’s revolutionary movement to overthrow the Islamic Republic must not be allowed to be overshadowed by war and warlike conditions and be replaced by pacifist peace-seeking. The real way to end this war is to dismantle the nuclear project and centers and end the government’s war-mongering propaganda and policies. This should be a central demand of us, the people, in the current circumstances.

My call to all activists and those involved in the Women’s Freedom Movement is to unite and coordinate your ranks as much as possible and protest against the war and against the Islamic Republic and its war-mongering policies in any way you can. Nighttime sloganeering has already begun in some neighborhoods of Tehran. In the social media space, people’s joy over the deaths of the criminal commanders of the IRGC and the army and the government’s repressive forces has also peaked, as has protest, satire, and mockery against the weak and helpless government that is not even capable of saving the lives of its military commanders. This trend can and must be expanded with protests in the form of civil disobedience, night demonstrations, worker rallies, and walkouts, and chanting slogans against the nuclear project and against the war and the government’s war-mongering policies. The Islamic Republic is collapsing. We, the people of Iran, must deliver the final blow.
