We’re currently nine co-editors, who collectively speak Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Mandarin, Spanish, Swedish, Russian, Tamil and Turkish. None of us get paid, we all do this in our free time, such as it is, and each of us contributes to the extent they are able to – which can fluctuate. We meet every three months or so on Zoom, and communicate on Signal in between.
Our process for deciding what to publish is simple: someone makes a proposal, if there are no objections (within 24 hours), the piece gets published (should someone be very unhappy with a post but missed the veto deadline, a retroactive veto is possible). We mostly republish and link to things published elsewhere, sometimes we translate, and very occasionally we publish our own writings.
We’re looking for more people to join the team. Specifically, we are looking for people who speak Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, French, German, Greek, Hausa, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Mandarin, Marathi, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Swahili, Telugu, Ukrainian, Vietnamese or any other language (you are all welcome), and who, whilst in broad agreement with our anti-authoritarian left, feminist and antiracist politics, might be able to bring in perspectives we’re unfamiliar with due to our inevitable cultural biases and linguistic limitations.
We would especially welcome people with experience or knowledge of social struggles or conflicts in parts of the world we have covered less so far (Central Asia, West Africa, South Africa, Central America and the Caribbean…) and/or editors who could help us expand our content in areas such as: peasant, indigenous and anti-extractivist struggles; democratic and minority struggles in smaller countries; the fight for trans rights; sex worker organising; feminist and queer struggles in Africa; new work in African history; Jewish history, Jewishness, Zionism, non-Zionism and anti-Zionism; Israel/Palestine in a regional context; the concept of subimperialism; histories of slavery; religion, gender and sexuality in far right politics; global fascism; theories of racism (to name a few examples).
If you think you might be interested, please contact us at [email protected].
Sincerely
LR Blog Co-editors
